Married with Debt is Now CommentLuv Enabled & DoFollow

As of today, MarriedWithDebt.com is a CommentLuv enabled, personal finance site.

What is CommentLuv? It is a great plugin that encourages commenting because it rewards commenters with an automatic link to their own latest blog post – right in the comment. This is a good thing because, in my opinion, the rise of social sharing allows people to simply click a “Like” or +1 button, rather than take the time to say what they like or why. I think this could be a great way to get people talking again.

I have also installed the DoFollow WordPress plugin, which makes all comments and links DoFollow. This means that web search crawlers will follow the link back to your site, and count it positively towards your search engine karma.

It is important that new bloggers connect with each other in the early stages and help each other out. I want this site to be a welcome place for readers and fellow bloggers, who are usually one and the same. I think the sea is just to big for us to be swimming alone trying to find an audience.

I know there are many bloggers out there who are just getting started – and I want you to know that thoughtful comments are always appreciated. Please try to refrain from drive-by comments meant just for dropping a backlink.

I hope this helps everyone out.

Thanks,

John

  1. Thanks for the Commentluv but you need a little more luv than that being that you go live in 2 or 3 days. Can’t wait to see you take off. All the best to you and your family for the new year.

    See you around John.

  2. Hi John, welcome to the Yakezie challenge! I am checking out your site and am intrigued by this whole commentluv…I am not sure if I want it on my blog as well. I will check in with you after a few weeks to see if you still like these plugins!

    • Hey ADP – thanks for stopping by. I can’t wait to “go live” in a few days with the Yakezie challenge.

I am optimistic about the CommentLuv because I like the idea of being able to jump to the latest (or preferred) blog post of my commenters. I’ll let you know in a few weeks how it’s going (but I think Yakezie will be a bigger benefit to me than any plugin).

  3. Hi
I actually came across your blog while searching for information on Comment luv (wanted to know what the rules were and how it worked).

I am bookmarking your blog just for kicks to check back and see what you have to say (Great subject by the way – isn’t just about everyone that is married married with debt?).

    • CommentLuv has been going pretty well for me. I like to come across other sites that have it installed. I think as far as rules, it is good form to go into the settings and make sure that you make comments DoFollow for search engine crawlers. That makes commenting on sites like mine good for your SERPs and helps your page’s rankings.

Glad you stumbled across me. Hopefully you found this site interesting and you come back – John

  4. I am using the same thing, Subscribe to Comments. Let me know how you like CommentLuv. I think the default setting is to make comment URLs NoFollow, so if you want to provide some juice for your commenters, you will have to change that to DoFollow.

  5. John – This is a good move I think in terms of boosting your traffic… Going to commentluv/dofollow will put you in the radar of a huge group of bloggers actively seeking those traits. I haven’t made the move on my blog yet (too soon right now) but will likely get to that stage soon. How has your traffic changed since you added comluv?

    • I added near its birth, so I’m not sure if it has drawn added traffic. Every once in awhile someone will stop by from Google looking for other CommentLuv blogs, but these are usually drive-bys.

It probably won’t attract longtime readers. Let us know how it works for you.

  6. John,
I love this idea and could not agree more about bloggers connecting in this fashion. Proper backlinking is more important than ever with the new Google algorithms and this will help all of us improve our sites rankings.

I might also note that with Google being so picky about “debt” sites and directories being even more selective about the content they publish, this may end up being all our main avenues for publishing links.

    Thanks for the great information!
